The gain: 40-60% reduction in code review cycle time.
This is the single highest-ROI AI practice for engineering teams. Not because the AI catches more bugs (it's decent at that, but humans are still better for architectural review). It's because AI eliminates the waiting.
How it works in practice:
Before a PR reaches a human reviewer, an AI agent reviews it first:
The human reviewer then focuses on what AI can't do: architectural decisions, business logic correctness, and design patterns. They spend 15 minutes on a review that used to take 45.
